My father, elder brother, and I owned some family land. A few months ago, my brother promised to pay my father and me a certain sum for our share, in exchange for transferring the property to him. We did this, but now he’s refusing to pay. Without this money, my father will be homeless, as my brother won’t let him live in his house. We didn’t have any written agreement about this arrangement.

As there is no written agreement, proving the agreed-upon sum and the transfer in exchange for payment will be challenging. Your father could attempt to pursue a claim for specific performance or damages based on the oral agreement, but the absence of documentation makes it difficult. You should consult with a lawyer to assess the legal options available and the likelihood of success.
