My family has been living on a 1500 square feet plot in Mumbai since 1955. My mother purchased it from the landowner in 1965 and we have been paying BMC property tax since 1963. However, the property card now shows it as belonging to the Maharashtra Government since 1968. How can we transfer ownership of this property to my mother and other family members? Please guide us on the process.

Based on your information, it seems there might be a discrepancy in the property records. You need to first resolve this issue by contacting the Maharashtra Government and the BMC to understand the basis for the change in ownership in 1968. Once the discrepancy is resolved, you can approach the Sub-Registrar’s Office in Mumbai to initiate the transfer of ownership to your mother and other family members. The process will involve filing a legal document and paying the relevant stamp duty and registration fees.
