My family bought a property in 2008. We learned the previous owner had bought it from someone who inherited it from his father. Now, the son of the previous owner’s second wife is claiming the sale was illegal because he was a minor at the time and didn’t consent. There was also a legal dispute between the previous owner and his second wife before he sold us the property. Given the situation, what are my legal rights as the current owner? The previous owner was Hindu.

Since you purchased the property without knowledge of any legal disputes or the minor’s claim, your ownership is likely protected under Indian law, specifically the Transfer of Property Act. However, a court may require you to prove your good faith purchase and lack of knowledge about the previous disputes.
