My family bought a flat four years ago, and it was supposed to be ready more than two years ago according to the agreement. The penalty for the delay seems to be just on paper. Recently, we received a letter asking us to finish some work in the flat. We’ve been to the construction site three times, but each time, we’re told we can’t see the flat for one reason or another. We’ve even sent emails and letters asking the builder to let us see the flat before we pay anything, but there’s no response. What can we do now?

You have a legal right to access your flat and inspect it before paying for any remaining work. You can issue a legal notice to the builder demanding access and completion of the work within a reasonable time frame. If the builder doesn’t comply, you can file a case in the Consumer Forum or a civil court seeking compensation for the delay and damages.
