My community wants to choose just one vendor for everything – milk, phone, cable, internet, newspaper, and more. They want to force everyone to use them. I’m happy with my current vendors, but I’m worried about being forced to switch. If I fight this, how much would it cost? How long would it take, in months or years? And if I lose, would I have to pay the other side’s legal costs?

Indian law emphasizes freedom of choice and prohibits monopolies. Forcing everyone to use a single vendor is illegal and you have grounds to fight it. Legal costs vary depending on the complexity of the case, but it could take months or even years to resolve. If you lose, you may have to pay the other side’s legal costs.
