Living in Indore, I’ve been in my mother’s flat for six years, enjoying the independence of being a bachelor. However, when a female friend visited, a neighbour, “aunty,” intervened, saying women aren’t allowed here, citing some “rule.” They insisted that no girls can come until I get married.

There is no legal basis for your neighbor’s claim. Your mother’s flat is her property, and you have the right to invite guests as you see fit, regardless of gender. You can politely but firmly assert your rights and ignore any such baseless interference.
