Living in a society, we all have a right to peace and quiet. I’m wondering if it’s legal for someone to turn their residential house into a godown in our society, especially if it causes disruption for other families. Are there any government rules against this? If it’s against the law, I’m prepared to file an RTI and pursue further action to stop this harassment.

Under Indian law, converting a residential property to a godown is generally not permitted in a residential society without necessary approvals. These approvals usually involve zoning regulations and society bylaws that aim to maintain the character of the area and ensure peaceful living conditions. You can file an RTI to ascertain the relevant regulations and pursue legal recourse if the godown is operating without proper approvals and causing disturbance.
