I bought agricultural land in Devdurga district, got it registered and obtained the patta. However, the previous owner is now claiming his mother has a right to the land, even though it wasn’t inherited. He filed an objection at the registrar office and is demanding ₹3 lakhs to drop the case. This harassment has been ongoing for the past 3 years, and he keeps raising his demands. As I live in Bangalore, is there a way to file a harassment case here to avoid travelling to Devdurga frequently? I’m willing to hire a lawyer.

You can file a harassment case against the previous owner in Bangalore, as the harassment is affecting you here. You can also file a civil suit in Devdurga to establish your legal ownership of the land and seek an injunction against the previous owner’s claims. Hiring a lawyer familiar with land disputes in Karnataka is recommended for effective legal action.
