My Maruti Suzuki Swift was sold six months ago, but the buyer didn’t transfer ownership until after an accident. During the accident, a passenger in the other vehicle, a private cab (similar to a Tata Indigo), passed away in the hospital, and others were injured. I have the original sale receipt and proof that my car had valid insurance at the time of the accident. The driver also had a valid license. Now I’ve received a court notice naming me as a fourth party. How do I proceed to get out of this legal situation?

Since you sold the car six months prior to the accident and have proof of transfer of ownership, you should file a response to the court notice with the sale receipt and insurance details. You can also request that the court summon the buyer as the current owner of the vehicle at the time of the accident to defend the case.
