My 3-month-old son underwent circumcision on June 11th by an MBBS MS surgeon. He used a surgical procedure and applied 7-8 stitches, but didn’t inform us about them before or after. We only found out two days later from the nurse. When we asked the doctor why he hadn’t explained this, he said, “This is a surgical procedure, not a simple barber’s cut. Stitches are necessary and they’ll dissolve on their own.” Can I take legal action against the doctor and how should I proceed?

Under Indian law, a doctor has a duty to obtain informed consent from the patient or their legal guardian before any medical procedure. Since the doctor did not inform you about the stitches, he violated this duty. You can file a complaint with the Medical Council of India and consider legal action for medical negligence. It’s advisable to consult a lawyer to understand your specific rights and options.
