Just moved into a new place near the Gurgaon bus stand. The rent was initially agreed upon as around ₹9,500 per month. I’ve been here for two days and now the landlord wants a security deposit of ₹9,000! He never said anything about it before we moved in. So, my questions are:
1. Is it legally okay for the landlord to ask for a security deposit after we moved in?
2. Is it fair to pay more than ₹9,000 rent for two furnished rooms in this area?

In India, landlords can legally demand a security deposit, but it must be clearly mentioned in the rental agreement. As it wasn’t mentioned prior to moving in, you have a right to refuse this additional payment. Regarding the rent amount, it’s subjective and depends on factors like the size, amenities, and market rates for furnished rooms in that specific area.
