I rented out my 8 shops for three years, with a fixed monthly rent of ₹1,600. All the tenants signed the agreement in front of a local lawyer. However, after two years, one tenant claims he shouldn’t pay the agreed amount, saying we verbally discussed matching the rent of other nearby shops. But our agreement clearly states ₹1,600, and there’s no mention of other shops. What should I do in this situation?

You have a valid lease agreement specifying a fixed rent of ₹1,600. The tenant’s claim of a verbal agreement is not legally binding as it contradicts the written contract. You can legally enforce the agreed rent and pursue legal action if necessary.
