My son, after completing his training at ICICI Bank, secured a Probationary Officer position in February 2015. The bank, at a cost of around ₹3 lakhs, had trained him and then provided a loan at a low interest rate, which was to be repaid in 60 installments from his salary. He was posted in a Guwahati branch and worked as a Sales Manager. Sadly, he was recently terminated due to an error in a customer’s mobile number during account opening, even though he verified the number by calling as per protocol. No charges were formally laid against him, nor was he given an opportunity to defend himself. Adding to the hardship, the bank is now demanding the full loan amount from my unemployed son. Could you advise if there are any legal options available for him to fight this injustice?

Your son can explore options like challenging the termination citing lack of due process and procedural fairness. He could also argue that the bank’s demand for the full loan amount is unreasonable given the circumstances and the fact that he was employed by them.
