My previous company made me attend a group training while I was employed. They didn’t ask me to sign any agreement or inform me about any costs upfront. Now, they’re demanding Rs. 60,000 from me – 20% above the market price – even though I haven’t completed the certification. The certification itself costs Rs. 25,000. Their policy mentions prorating costs for group training. Can they really charge me for the entire training since I didn’t finish it?

Indian law does not mandate payment for incomplete training programs unless a written agreement explicitly states such terms. Since your company didn’t have you sign an agreement or inform you of costs beforehand, they may not be able to legally demand payment for the entire training. You can argue for a prorated cost based on the training completed, as per their own policy.
