I worked for a Mumbai-based securities firm in Chennai. My notice period was 30 days, but I was only able to work for 20 due to my reporting manager’s delayed departure. My resignation date was postponed because of this, and HR didn’t mention any salary deductions during our phone call. However, they later deducted 10 days’ worth of salary, claiming it was company policy. My resignation was delayed because of a postponed meeting with my state head, but they haven’t addressed this issue. What can I do? The amount deducted is roughly 4500 rupees.

You can approach your employer and seek clarification on the salary deduction. Point out that your delayed departure was due to your manager’s delay and not your fault. If they refuse to reconsider, you can explore filing a complaint with the Labour Commissioner or seek legal advice from an employment lawyer.
