I recently started as a Probationary Officer at Punjab and Sind Bank in Punjab. After just three days, I realised it wasn’t the right fit and submitted my resignation along with a demand draft for ₹50,000 as per the bond. However, the bank responded saying I need to serve a three-month notice period or pay three months’ salary. This wasn’t mentioned in the bond or my appointment letter, even though the governing laws were listed without any clear explanations. What are my options now?

You have a legal right to resign, but the bank may be enforcing an implied notice period based on common banking practice. You can try negotiating a shorter notice period or reaching a settlement. If unsuccessful, you could seek legal advice to challenge the bank’s demand in court, citing the lack of explicit notice period clause in your bond and appointment letter.
