I recently quit my job to start my own venture, but I never signed a formal contract. I just emailed my former employer to let them know I was leaving. Now, they’re threatening to sue me for fraud, claiming I was working on my own business while employed with them. If I didn’t sign any contracts, can I be considered their employee legally? Will the emails and work I did for them be enough to prove my employment and hold me liable?

In India, an employment contract is not always required for a valid employment relationship. Emails and work done can be considered evidence of employment. However, the court would need to assess the nature of your work and your emails to determine if you were legally employed and if you breached any terms of your employment.
