I recently joined an IT company in Bangalore as a fresher. During the interview, they promised a salary starting at INR 20,000, increasing to INR 40,000 after six months. I submitted my original documents (SSC, +2, B.Sc, MBA, and Passport) as per the agreement. However, they haven’t provided me with the promised bank locker key, and I’ve learned from a two-year employee that the actual salary doesn’t even reach INR 40,000. I’m now considering leaving the company but worried about getting my original documents back. I have an acknowledgment letter and there’s no PF-ESI for me or others, although I’m unsure if it’s applicable to everyone. Leaving without my originals could result in a penalty of INR 5 lakhs. The company has around 50+ employees. Can you suggest a way to get my documents back while ensuring I’m not breaking any laws?

You can send a legal notice demanding the return of your original documents and the promised salary, citing the acknowledgment letter and the employment contract. You can also file a complaint with the Labour Department regarding non-payment of salary and non-compliance with PF-ESI regulations.
