I’m a 24-year-old man who’s lived with my adoptive parents since childhood. However, they never formally adopted me. We’d now like to make the adoption official, but my birth parents are hesitant to give their consent. Can we still go through with the adoption without their approval?

In India, adoption of a person over 18 years of age requires the consent of their biological parents. While your adoptive parents can approach the court for adoption, it’s unlikely to be approved without your birth parents’ consent unless they are deemed unfit or unable to provide consent.
