I was deeply hurt when a Muslim man I was in a relationship with for a year lied about his family’s disapproval of our marriage due to religious differences. He actually hadn’t even told them about me and was secretly looking for matches within his faith. I discovered he had been deceiving me for the entire time we were together. I want to file a case against him for cheating but I’m not sure what legal options I have. He also took my phone, claiming it was lost in a robbery, which I later found out was a lie. The phone had messages, photos, and call recordings that prove our relationship. Is there a way to pursue legal action against him for his dishonesty and for taking my phone?

Indian law does not specifically address “cheating” in a romantic relationship. However, you could potentially pursue legal action for the theft of your phone, which could include charges of criminal misappropriation. You may also have grounds to file a civil suit for damages caused by his deceit, but it would be advisable to consult with an attorney to explore your options and the strength of your case.
