I received an appointment order from the Dean of Bangalore Medical College, stating I’ve been appointed as an Assistant Professor at PMSSY, with an ICTE pay scale. PMSSY is an upgraded Bangalore Medical College, established under the PMSSY scheme. Other faculty from BMC work at PMSSY, which has financial autonomy. If PMSSY detaches and becomes an autonomous hospital, will our positions become non-teaching? As the hospital gains autonomy, will we lose the right to recruit?

As per Indian law, your appointment order from the Dean of Bangalore Medical College, under the ICTE pay scale, establishes your role as an Assistant Professor. PMSSY’s financial autonomy and potential detachment as an autonomous hospital wouldn’t automatically render your position non-teaching. However, the specific terms of your appointment and PMSSY’s new regulations upon becoming autonomous would determine your teaching rights and recruitment responsibilities.
