Hi,
I’m Vikas U M. When I applied for my passport about a decade ago, I expanded my initials and used “Vikas Ujjani Mata” as my surname. Now, I wish to correct it to “Vikas Ujjanimath”.
Could you please advise me on the legal process to make this change?

You can apply for a correction in your passport by submitting an application with supporting documents like an affidavit from a gazetted officer stating the discrepancy and proof of your correct surname, like a birth certificate or school leaving certificate. The passport office will verify the documents and issue a new passport with the corrected surname.
