We’ve been married since February 2015, and I’m from Lucknow while my wife is from Unnao. We haven’t had children yet. I work in Gurgaon, and she’s a homemaker. Recently, my wife became suspicious of an old college friend, which isn’t true. She doesn’t understand our friendship and insisted I block her on social media. Things escalated when she saw my call log and started shouting. This isn’t the first time. To explain the situation, I called my parents, but she retaliated by calling her brother. He took her back to Unnao without any warning. It’s been three months, and she’s not answering calls. It feels like she’s left me. The families are now estranged. What should I do next? I don’t think things can be the same after all this. Should I consider divorce? What are the potential outcomes in this scenario?

Under Indian law, you can file for divorce on grounds of desertion, which is when your wife has left the matrimonial home without justification for a period of two years or more. However, you should attempt reconciliation with your wife and her family first. If reconciliation fails, you can file for divorce, and the court will consider factors like the duration of your marriage, the circumstances of the separation, and the possibility of reconciliation to determine the outcome.
