We are a Hindu family. Our son got married in 2011. He was supposed to go abroad for work in 2012. Both their visas were ready. Suddenly, the girl’s parents forcefully took her away, claiming she wouldn’t go so far. Our son went alone in June 2012. They’ve cut off all communication for the past four years. We haven’t filed any police complaints. They offered a mutual consent divorce in 2015 for a large sum, which we refused. They filed a divorce petition in August 2015, but it hasn’t been legally served to my son abroad. We only get repeated dates. Nobody appears in court. Our son won’t return to India. What can we do to resolve this situation? We are confident we’ll win any legal case.

Since the divorce petition hasn’t been legally served on your son, the proceedings are technically invalid. You can file an application for dismissal of the petition on this ground.
