My husband created a fake profile on a marriage website, using my photos and information, to make it seem like I’m seeking a second marriage. He claims I want to trap another man for his money. This is completely untrue! He also accessed my emails, Facebook, and even my income tax documents illegally. I’ve filed a police complaint but they’re not taking any action. How can I get him punished for damaging my reputation and causing me emotional distress? What legal steps can I take?

Your husband’s actions constitute cybercrime under the Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as offenses under the Indian Penal Code, including defamation and criminal intimidation. File a formal complaint with the cybercrime cell of your local police or with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. You can also pursue legal action against him for damages and restraining orders to prevent further harassment.
