My dear friend, three years ago I registered for a court marriage and submitted a separation letter. Now, I wish to completely end this relationship and cancel the marriage registration. Could you please guide me on the procedure and the expected timeframe? Will this cancellation cause any issues in my future marriage? Also, just by registering the separation and marriage, is my name officially recorded as married?

To cancel your court marriage, you’ll need to file for divorce and follow the legal process, which can take several months to years. The divorce decree will formally end your marriage and shouldn’t affect future relationships. Simply registering the separation doesn’t officially change your marital status; a divorce decree is required for that.
