I’m a widow and fell in love with a man who was already married. He said his first marriage wasn’t legally valid, so we got married in court. After two years, he reunited with his first wife and left me. We had a huge argument, but he came back after 18 months. He was staying with both of us, and his first wife didn’t know. Recently, she found out, and we worked things out, making compromises. Now, he wants to live with his first wife. How can I hold him accountable for what he’s done? What can I do?

Under Indian law, your marriage to the man may be considered valid if his first marriage was indeed invalid. However, his subsequent cohabitation with his first wife without disclosing your marriage may be grounds for annulment. You can file a suit for annulment and seek alimony and compensation for mental distress.
