I’m a Hindu woman. Seven years ago, I married my brother-in-law when I was underage. I left the marriage after six months and have been living with my parents since then. Now, I’m working and want to marry someone else. My husband won’t agree to a divorce. How can I get a divorce?

As you were underage at the time of marriage, it was void under Indian law. You can file for a declaration of nullity in court. Since the marriage is legally void, your husband’s consent is not required for a divorce, and you can proceed with marrying someone else.
