My husband and I have been living apart for almost 7 months. During this time, I connected with a young man on Facebook and our conversations became personal. Recently, my husband has been accessing my Facebook, WhatsApp messages, and call records. He’s now threatening to make our private conversations public if I don’t agree to a divorce. We’ve been having marital problems for a decade. Is his hacking of my accounts a cyber crime?

Yes, your husband’s actions of accessing your accounts without your consent constitute a cybercrime under the Information Technology Act, 2000. His threat to make your private conversations public could also be considered criminal harassment and blackmail. You should report this to the police and consider seeking legal advice.
