My son and his mother, both British citizens, live in India. She works for the government. Recently, he was involved in an incident where he allegedly broke a door, entered a home, and assaulted a woman. His father obtained anticipatory bail for him. The next day, they surrendered their British passports. What will happen now? Will they be detained or questioned? If so, for how long? Can they come back to India, or can they travel to the UK?

Surrendering their British passports doesn’t automatically absolve them from the legal process. They can be detained and questioned as per Indian law, with the duration depending on the investigation’s progress. They may face difficulty returning to India or traveling to the UK until the case is resolved.
