My husband is struggling with addiction. He’s losing himself and I’m desperate to help him get clean. I’m thinking about calling the police, but I only want him to stay in jail long enough to detox from the drugs. He really wants to quit, but hasn’t been able to in the past because of the withdrawals. Right now, he’s saying he doesn’t have a problem. If I report him, can I drop the charges later? And if I do, will he be released right away, especially since he has a few past offenses like driving under the influence, public intoxication, and some minor charges from when he was younger?

In India, you cannot use the legal system to force someone into rehabilitation. Reporting your husband for drug use would result in police action, and you cannot control the length of his detention or guarantee his release. He would be subject to the law based on the specific charges and his past offenses. Instead of involving the police, consider seeking help from addiction support groups and professionals.
