My classmate had a crush on me during our second year, but I wasn’t interested. He gifted me a guitar on my birthday, which I accepted. Now, in our final year, he’s demanding the guitar back. He stormed into class, yelled at me, and used abusive language. When I tried to defend myself, he grabbed my hand so forcefully I sustained a muscle injury. My institute isn’t doing much about it. What can I do? Would the Mahila Aayog help, and if so, what action would they take?

You can file a complaint with the police under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The National Commission for Women (NCW) or the State Women’s Commission can also assist you in filing the complaint and provide legal aid. They can investigate the matter and recommend further action, including counseling, police intervention, and legal proceedings.
