I was travelling on a state-run bus and the conductor insisted I put my luggage on the roof. When I got off the bus, my luggage was gone! The conductor claims he’s not responsible, but I believe it was stolen. Can you provide some legal citations to help me file a case against the conductor and driver for theft?

Under Indian law, the bus conductor and driver are responsible for the safekeeping of luggage entrusted to them. You may file a case against them under Section 403 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with criminal misappropriation. You could also seek compensation for the stolen luggage under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
