Can a court in India compel the police to register a complaint or investigate a crime?

Yes, an Indian court can issue directions to the police to register a complaint or investigate a crime under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. However, the court will consider the evidence presented and ensure there is a reasonable ground to suspect the commission of a cognizable offense.
