We won a case at the state consumer forum regarding a housing issue. The other party has 30 days to comply with the order. We’re worried they might appeal to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC). What can we do proactively? Is filing a caveat a good idea? Also, if they appeal, can we ask for more compensation? Or will the NCDRC only reduce or nullify the penalty, or even impose a higher penalty on the other party?

Filing a caveat at the NCDRC is advisable to ensure you are notified of any appeal by the other party. However, it does not guarantee any specific outcome. The NCDRC can uphold, reduce, or nullify the state forum’s order, including imposing higher penalties, based on the merits of the appeal. You cannot automatically seek more compensation, but you can argue for it during the appeal proceedings.
