I’m a GNM nurse from a village near Bangalore, and I wanted to pursue a BSc Nursing degree from Laxmidevi Nursing Institute in Hoskote. I trusted an agent to help me with the admission process and submitted my original certificates as they asked. But due to financial difficulties, I had to withdraw my application in December 2013. However, the college is now refusing to return my original certificates unless I pay two years’ fees, which is around two lakh rupees. I’m desperate to get my certificates back. What legal options do I have?

You have legal grounds to demand the return of your original certificates. Under Indian law, educational institutions cannot withhold certificates for non-payment of fees, especially after withdrawal. You can file a complaint with the Karnataka Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (KPEIRA) and approach the consumer forum for redressal.
