I started my second year of engineering last year at a private college after clearing the ECET exam. Unfortunately, due to health and financial difficulties, I had to drop out within two months. I requested my certificates and paid a hefty sum of ₹35,000 to the college management. However, they are now demanding the entire three years’ fees in return for my certificates. I’ve heard that there’s a law against colleges withholding student certificates. What can I do to get my certificates back? I’ve already requested them and warned them about the law, but I haven’t received any response.

Indian law prohibits educational institutions from withholding certificates for non-payment of fees. You can file a complaint with the concerned authorities, such as the State Higher Education Council or the consumer forum, to seek intervention and retrieve your certificates. You can also consult a lawyer to explore legal recourse and challenge the college’s demand.
