I opened an ING Vysya bank account back in 2014 when I was working. It was a salary account, but I left the job after two years. The bank converted it into a savings account and now they’re charging annual fees. They’re also saying I owe them Rs 3,500 in overdraft charges. I’ve emailed them multiple times asking to close the account, but they haven’t responded. I’ve even spoken to the customer service at my branch, but they insist on full payment. What can I do to close the account without paying the money immediately?

Under Indian law, you have the right to close your account. While you might be legally obligated to pay the charges, you can negotiate with the bank to waive or reduce the fees. You can also file a complaint with the Banking Ombudsman if your requests for closure are ignored.
