My friend was stopped by the police for not wearing a helmet. He forgot his documents too, so they took his bike to Prashant Vihar Police Station. They asked us to write an application with a ₹11 ticket and get it attested by the ACP, which we did. Now they’re saying we have to wait till 12th February because the application needs to go to the SHO, then back to the ACP, and then the bike will be transferred to Sector 16 Police Station. It’s a long process!

The police’s actions are likely against the law. While they can impound your friend’s bike for not wearing a helmet, the lengthy process and requirement for a written application and ACP attestation are not justified. You can challenge this and demand immediate release of the bike, citing the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
