I’m a Bengali girl studying in Vellore. I’ve fallen for a Muslim boy from here, but my father, who’s very influential and concerned about our social standing, opposes our relationship. He’s spreading lies about me being married and mentally unstable, even forcing me to take medication by falsely claiming I’m unwell. When I went to Vellore North Police Station, they refused to register my complaint. What legal options do I have? I need help, I’m not married or anything he claims.

You have several legal options. You can file a complaint with the National Commission for Women, seek protection under the Domestic Violence Act, and file a case of defamation against your father for spreading false information. Additionally, you can report the police station’s inaction to their superiors or the National Human Rights Commission.
