As we age, we may face health challenges that make us reliant on others. Imagine a scenario where I become severely ill and require constant care, unable to perform daily tasks. In such a situation, I would prefer not to live a life entirely dependent on others. Could you please guide me on the legal process of registering a document that allows for a painless, compassionate end-of-life option with my consent, if such a situation arises?

Indian law does not currently allow for legally binding advance directives or “living wills” that specify end-of-life choices. While the Supreme Court has recognized the right to a dignified death, there’s no clear legal framework for accessing assisted suicide or euthanasia. Therefore, you can’t register a document guaranteeing a painless end-of-life option in India.
