I’m really stressed out! Back in October, a customer who’d bought from me twice before, asked for a cheque because the banks were closed for Diwali. He gave me a cheque for ₹2,500 on the 8th, but it bounced because his account was empty. He’s been making promises to pay in cash but keeps dodging me and now won’t even answer my calls. I told him I’d take legal action, but he just brushed it off. Now I really want to pursue this, but how do I go about it? Can I handle it myself, or do I need a lawyer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can pursue legal action under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Since the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds, you can file a complaint with a magistrate. It is advisable to consult a lawyer who can guide you through the process and help prepare necessary documents.
