I hired a driver through a consultation firm, paying them ₹18,000 by cheque. Despite exceeding the agreed timeframe, they couldn’t find me a driver. I repeatedly requested a refund from the manager, who eventually gave me a post-dated cheque which bounced. When I asked for a cash refund, he promised it on a specific date. However, when I arrived, he demanded the bounced cheque back! My bank confirmed the cheque was returned unpaid, and I showed the firm my statement, but they still refuse to return my money. What can I do now?

You can file a criminal complaint against the firm for cheating and dishonoring the cheque under Section 420 and 138 of the Indian Penal Code. You can also file a civil suit for recovery of your money. It is advisable to consult a lawyer to understand the best course of action and proceed accordingly.
