To obtain a copy of your marriage certificate in India, follow these steps based on whether you are applying for a new certificate or a duplicate.

To Obtain Original:

  1. Ensure that both partners meet the age requirements (groom: 21 years, bride: 18 years).
  2. Submit documents like the identity proof (Aadhaar card, passport, etc.), address proof, Age proof, marriage invitation or solemnization proof, Passport-sized photographs of both spouses, witness details (two witnesses required)
  3. Complete the marriage registration form available at the local marriage registrar’s office or online on state government websites.
  4.  Submit the form along with the required documents.
  5. Pay the registration fee, which varies by state (e.g., Rs. 100 for Hindu marriages in Delhi).
  6. The registrar will verify the documents, and upon successful verification, issue the marriage certificate within a specified timeframe.

For a Duplicate Marriage Certificate:

  1. Go to the office where your marriage was originally registered.
  2. Fill out the application form for a duplicate certificate.
  3. Include a copy of the FIR (if applicable), proof of marriage (like wedding photos), and identity proofs for both spouses.
  4. Submit the application with all documents and pay the processing fee. You may need to attend an appointment with original witnesses present.
