I got married in 2005 and bought a flat jointly with my wife on August 24th, 2008. I’m still paying off the bank loan on the flat. My wife left the house in 2014 and filed for divorce in a Mumbai family court. She also filed a domestic violence case against me. The divorce was granted on September 1st, 2014, and the domestic violence case was dismissed on December 22nd, 2014. Now, I want to remove my wife’s name from the house ownership. What should I do?

In India, the principle of “concurrent sentences” applies. If two sentences are imposed for separate offenses, the time served for the earlier sentence can be adjusted towards the later sentence, provided both sentences are to be served concurrently. However, specific details of the case and the court order would determine if the time served for the second murder will count towards the first.
