My father is alive and wants to give his property to my married sister. We are a Muslim family and I am his only son. My mother passed away 12 years ago and my sister got married 3 years before that. The property is still in my father’s name. My sister and her husband live in the same house with my wife and me. I got married a year and a half ago. How can I claim my rightful share of the property?

Under Islamic law, your father has the right to bequeath two-thirds of his property to anyone he wishes. As his son, you are entitled to a mandatory share of one-third of his property. You can claim your share after your father’s death by filing a legal suit for partition of the property.
