My motorcycle was sold through a mechanic in 2010 to someone I didn’t know. He got my signature on the transfer papers but never actually transferred the ownership. I was unaware of his intentions and didn’t ask for a proper sale agreement. Now in 2017, the bike was involved in an accident and the police have filed a case against me. The bike is still registered in my name, and I’m being held responsible for something I didn’t do. What can I do to get out of this situation? The police harassment is unbearable.

You should immediately file a police complaint against the mechanic for fraud and forgery. You can also approach the Motor Vehicle Department to provide proof of the sale and initiate the transfer of ownership. You can also file a writ petition in the High Court against the police harassment and seek an injunction against any further action.
