I was riding my bike on a road that wasn’t clearly marked as one-way. The police are claiming it was a one-way street, even though there weren’t any signs. I ended up in an accident with another biker, a 20-year-old guy, who was coming from the opposite direction, using what he thought was the right way. He fractured his hand and leg, while I suffered a minor leg injury. Initially, the other biker’s family didn’t ask for compensation, but now they’re demanding a huge amount, visiting my house twice. I don’t want to pay. They’re threatening to file a case against me, but no FIR has been registered yet. Both our bikes are at the police station. The police arrived at the scene that day and took photos. All my documents are in order. What should I do?

You should consult a lawyer immediately. While the lack of signage might be a defense, the accident occurred due to a violation of traffic rules, and you could be held liable. A lawyer can advise you on your legal options and negotiate with the other biker’s family, potentially avoiding a costly lawsuit.
