My lease in Andheri East ends on November 30th and I’m moving out that day. However, my landlord is trying to deduct unnecessary expenses from my security deposit. He’s asking for:
1. An extra 15 days’ rent, even though I notified him on November 12th that I wouldn’t renew the lease.
2. AC installation costs from the previous tenant, which aren’t mentioned in our current agreement.
3. Paint repairs due to roof leaks, claiming it’s not normal wear and tear.
4. The cost of two gas cylinders provided to the previous tenant.
I’m worried about these charges and need help understanding what’s fair.

According to Indian law, your landlord can only deduct expenses from your security deposit that are directly related to damage caused by you, or if you breach the lease agreement. The charges for the previous tenant’s AC, paint repairs due to roof leaks, and gas cylinders are not justifiable, as these were not your responsibility.
