My landlord is claiming I owe him money for an old electricity bill, even though I got a refund during my tenancy. He told me not to worry about it when I noticed the bill issue three months ago. Now, he says he lost a court case and I’m responsible for the payment. Should I pay? If so, why?

Indian law does not obligate you to pay for an old electricity bill you received a refund for, even if your landlord lost a court case. Your landlord’s statement about you not needing to worry is relevant as it suggests an agreement to disregard the issue. You are not legally responsible for the bill as you already received a refund.
